Today we visited Alcatraz and Angel Island. We had a boat to take us to both of these places, which also provided good views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Angel Island is in the San Francisco Bay, not far from Alcatraz. Historically, it has been used for military forts, and as an immigration station. The highlight, however, was the seals sleeping on the dock.
The boat then took us to Alcatraz, where we first took a walking tour led by a park ranger. The ranger went on, rather dubiously, about the various ways in which Alcatraz represents freedom.
Afterwards, we looked around the cell blocks as part of an audio tour. It covered the various escape attempts that had been carried out in the past.
It has been a surprisingly cold day, particularly out on the bay, where it has been windy.
Tomorrow is our last full day in San Francisco before we start off down the coast back to Los Angeles.
